A 1939 Ford 91A V8 car that featured itself in the critically acclaimed 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' 1988 movie is due to go on sale on the website Car & Classics

A 1939 Ford 91A V8, which played a notable role in the critically acclaimed film 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit,' is gearing up for auction through Car & Classic's used vehicle platform.

Emerging from the American production line in late 1939, this vintage Ford made its voyage to the UK during the 1960s.

In the 1980s, the V8-powered sedan underwent an extensive restoration while residing in a museum, just before it took the spotlight on the big screen in 1988 as a pivotal part of the movie that united animated characters with real-life individuals.

The Ford's distinctive art deco body design made it a seamless fit for Toontown, situated near Los Angeles, the backdrop that complemented the film's atmosphere. It became an integral element of the iconic 1940s aesthetics, contributing significantly to the movie's unique noir ambience.

Although the storyline was set in 1947, the actual filming of Who Framed Roger Rabbit took place at Elstree Studios in London. The Ford shared scenes with Bob Hoskins and was prominently featured in the movie's promotional materials.

Garnering critical acclaim, this Disney-supported film skillfully blended live action with animation, earning it four Academy Awards and a multitude of other accolades.

Preceding its debut in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the car received a comprehensive bare-metal respray in the mid-1980s to ensure its cinematic appearance was flawless. The glossy black finish and detailing have remained impeccably preserved in their original state, testifying to the calibre of the restoration work.

The renowned Ford 'flathead' V8 engine remains authentically intact, while subtle enhancements, such as an upgraded Edelbrock intake and a larger aluminium radiator, have been integrated to elevate both its performance and dependability.

Throughout the past 27 years of ownership, the current custodian has diligently preserved the car's original allure and mechanical integrity, selectively incorporating modifications only when necessary to enhance its reliability and overall performance.

An extensive compilation of documentation, invoices, MOTs, an original Ford De Luxe instruction booklet, and 'running-in' guidelines serve as tangible evidence of the meticulous care that the owner has dedicated to this vehicle.

Dale Vinten, an author at Car & Classic has said:

"This is a Ford with a very special backstory, playing a key part in a movie that many will remember for its unique blend of actors, both real and cartoon. Today the car not only holds that appeal to fans of Roger, Jessica and Bob Hoskins but it also is a very original pre-war Ford that benefits from subtle upgrades to enjoy and show for many years to come"

The advertisement is now available to view on Car & Classics and the auction starts on the 19th of August 2023 and will last for five days. Estimates seem to place the legendary car between £20,000 and £30,000 but it remains to be seen what price the car will be bought at.
