2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz MPV Revealed
Following the continuous success of the Volkswagen Type 2 van, VW have been teasing us over the past few years with shots of the ID. Buzz MPV. Back in January 2022, VW announced the Volkswagen Multivan T7 which was replacing the Caravelle as an all-purpose van. But now VW have finally unveiled the ID. Buzz and will feature more lifestyle-focused features compared to the T7 Multivan.
2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Specs
2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz exterior & design
Largely modelled on the original Type 2 van, the ID. Buzz will appeal to anyone who loves that kind of aesthetic. The two-tone paint finish is undoubtedly inspired by the 1966 Type 2 which featured the same styling.
Of course, it's not a 1966 vehicle, it's a modern one for 2022 and has been styled as such. The large and classic VW badge is flanked by sharp LEDs and the now popular ID. horizontal lightbar. It has an attractive diamond-shaped grille and a sweeping front windscreen gives it a little less wind resistance.
The rear is another nod to the Type 2 as it features near enough the exact same vertical rear-end with its rectangle windscreen. It has a large boot door and unlike the original Type 2 van, the rear passenger doors are sliding to give passengers quick and easy access.
The side profile looks fantastic with the two-tone paint and the ID. Buzz floats on some very cool looking 18-inch alloys, which can be upgraded to 21-inch because you know, bigger is always better!
2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz interior & features
The first ID. Buzz to launch will feature five seats and will be the SWB (short wheelbase) version. There is an LWB (long wheelbase) model which will feature seven seats planned to be released further down the line. The three rear passenger seats have lots of room and even a 6-foot person would find themselves being pleasantly comfortable.
Even with the SWB model, you get a hefty amount of boot space. Measuring in at 1,121 litres there is plenty of room to fit in stacks of luggage and more. And if that isn't enough, you can fold down the rear passenger seats for extra space.
Moving up to the front dashboard area, the two-tone paint styling of the exterior is featured here with a yellow section running along the centre. It gives the front section a retro, yet modern look at the same time. You even get a wooden insert running above the yellow section to give you that retro feel.
Infotainment system-wise, the front largely resembles the Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5, which would make sense given it's based on the same MEB platform. With its flat-bottomed steering wheel and 5.3-inch digital cockpit to keep an eye on your current speed and remaining range. In the centre is a large 10-inch colour touchscreen and you can opt for a 12-inch one instead if you so choose.
2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz motors, batteries & range
The ID. Buzz is a large vehicle and needs some hefty power behind it to get it moving. Thankfully, VW have paired the ID. Buzz with a strong single electric motor configuration that offers around 204 horsepower and 301Nm of torque. Seemingly, this is enough to get the big lump from 0 to 62mph in around 9 to 10 seconds. Which is not bad considering the size. No doubt VW will add a dual motor model later on to increase the power output.
Battery and charging-wise, the ID. Buzz features a battery capacity of 82kWh, of which 77kWh are usable. These batteries should offer up to 170kW of rapid charging speeds, meaning you could potentially go from 5% to 80% in just 30 minutes at the fastest rapid chargers. VW have yet to confirm actual charging speed and range figures, but the ID. Buzz is expected to have around 250 miles of range.
Knock about 30 miles off that if you're driving in freezing temperatures and you have a real-world mileage figure of around 220 miles on a bad day. We still think that's good for a vehicle of this size.
2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Price
There are no official pricing figures yet from Volkswagen. But we can actually make a fairly good guess since they just released the Volkwagen Multivan T7 recently at an OTR price of £43,000.
Knowing this and knowing that the electric counterparts cost a bit extra at the moment, we'd say you're looking at £45,000+ for a brand new 2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz. That's the best we can say until VW release some pricing.
2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Release Date
The 2022 Volkswagen ID. Buzz MPV is set to go on sale around May 2022, or at least around the Summer period.
