2024 Audi A6 e-tron Exterior Design

The Audi A6 e-tron boasts an elegant and dynamic exterior, featuring slim daytime running lights and a wide grille that enhances its road presence. The closed and inverted Singleframe grille, surrounded by a black mask, highlights the distinctive e-tron design. Integrated into this dark mask are the main headlights and functional elements like the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) sensors and air intakes, making them almost invisible.

Its striking roofline and muscular quattro blisters emphasise the drivetrain. The battery is highlighted by a black insert in the sill area, creating a slim, dynamic side profile that extends to the rear, integrating the reflectors for a visually stretched appearance. The Avant model is noted for its flat roofline and steeply sloping D-pillar, accented by an aluminium-look trim piece from the A-pillar to the roof spoiler.

The rear combines elegance with sportiness, featuring a clean design and a continuous three-dimensional light strip. A striking spoiler lip and an eye-catching rear diffuser add to the sporty look. Standard 20-inch wheels on the A6 e-tron, with various distinctive designs and sizes up to 21 inches on the S6 e-tron, enhance its aesthetic. The exterior colour options, including shades like Magnetic grey solid, Glacier white metallic, and Daytona grey pearl effect, emphasise its powerful and progressive design.

Aerodynamics

The A6 e-tron excels in aerodynamics, continuing Audi's legacy of aerodynamic excellence. With a cw (drag coefficient) value of 0.21 for the Sportback and 0.24 for the Avant, it is among the most aerodynamic vehicles in its class. The front is optimised with air curtains and a controllable cool-air intake to minimise airflow losses. Additional aerodynamic components and a highly sealed underbody further enhance performance.

A wide, aerodynamically optimised diffuser balances lift and drag, with additional spoilers on the Avant for controlled stall. The low roof edge spoiler reduces turbulence behind the vehicle, improving aerodynamics. Aero wheels and virtual exterior mirrors, which can now fold electrically, contribute to reduced drag and enhanced efficiency.

Lighting Technology

Audi leads in lighting design and technology with the A6 e-tron, featuring three-dimensional headlights and rear lights with digital light signatures. Digital daytime running lights with LED technology and second-generation digital OLED rear lights enhance safety and design. The rear lights, with around 45 segments per panel, enable car-to-x communication, improving road safety by displaying warning symbols during critical situations.

The advanced lighting technology allows for a high level of individualisation, with eight digital light signatures available. The front lights feature 12 dimmable segments, while the rear lights use all digital OLED segments for a consistent luminous intensity. The digital OLED rear lights also communicate with the surroundings, enhancing safety through proximity detection and communication light features. The illumination of the Audi rings at the rear, depending on the equipment, emphasises the brand's identity and adds a unique personality to the A6 e-tron.

2024 Audi A6 e-tron Interior Features and Technology

The Audi A6 e-tron’s interior is designed with user needs in mind, featuring a three-dimensional, high-contrast design. The MMI panoramic display, comprising an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit, a 14.5-inch MMI touch display, and a 10.9-inch front passenger display, forms a digital stage with a clear, visually appealing design.

Active Privacy Mode allows the front passenger to enjoy entertainment content without distracting the driver. Depending on speed and seat occupancy, the light is intelligently controlled to either focus on privacy or make content visible to all.

A significant upgrade is the optional second-generation augmented reality head-up display (AR HuD), which projects relevant information onto the windshield, such as speed, traffic signs, and navigation symbols.

The interior's "soft wrap" extends across the panel width, creating a cohesive, welcoming space. Materials are chosen for both function and design, with comfort areas featuring soft surfaces and control areas in high-gloss black for clear interaction. Slim air vents blend into the background, while the displays for the optional virtual exterior mirrors are located in the doors, visible near the A-pillar and door sill.

A digital wrap spans from mirror to mirror across the instrument panel, connected by the dynamic interaction light at the windshield base. Essential functions like mirror adjustment, lighting, and locking systems are integrated into the central control panel in the driver’s door. An optional four-zone automatic air conditioning system and an air quality package with aroma fragrance and ioniser enhance the cabin ambience.

Smart Panoramic Roof

An innovative panoramic glass roof with PDLC technology allows the glass to switch from transparent to opaque, minimising direct sunlight at the touch of a button. This “digital curtain” can be controlled via presets for enhanced comfort.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The A6 e-tron’s infotainment system, running on Android Automotive OS, supports over-the-air updates for the latest Audi connect services and an enhanced e-tron route planner. The Audi Application Store offers various apps, including YouTube, without needing a smartphone.

Voice control has been significantly expanded, with the Audi assistant capable of controlling numerous vehicle functions. Connected to ChatGPT via Microsoft Azure, the assistant can provide information and execute commands using natural language, ensuring data security by deleting all interactions after processing.

The optional Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System features headrest loudspeakers, providing personal surround sound and enhanced audio experiences with 20 speakers driven by an 830-watt amplifier.

Range and Charging

The A6 e-tron features powerful electric motors and a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a range of over 450 miles for the Sportback and 430 miles for the Avant. Two versions will be available: the A6 e-tron performance (367PS, rear-wheel drive) and the S6 e-tron (503PS to 550PS, Quattro all-wheel drive). The latter accelerates from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds.

Equipped with 800-volt technology, the A6 e-tron can recharge up to 192 miles in 10 minutes at a high-power charging station. It also features Plug & Charge for automatic charging at compatible stations and advanced recuperation systems for efficient braking and energy recovery.

Driving Dynamics

The suspension of the A6 e-tron is finely tuned for agile driving dynamics, with an optional adaptive air suspension offering a balance between comfort and sporty handling. The Audi drive select system includes an efficiency mode that lowers the body to improve aerodynamics and energy consumption.

The S6 e-tron’s rear-biased all-wheel-drive system and different-sized tyres on the front and rear axles enhance stability and sportiness, ensuring precise driving dynamics.

Driver Assistance Systems

The A6 e-tron comes with a wide range of driver assistance systems, including the adaptive driving assistant plus, which aids in acceleration, braking, maintaining speed and distance, and lane guidance. This system uses sensors, high-resolution map data, and cloud-based swarm data to provide a comfortable driving experience across all speed ranges and in traffic jams.

Standard features include Park Assist Plus, a surround-view camera, traffic sign-based speed limiter, camera-based traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, and distraction and drowsiness warnings.
