2024 Skoda Superb Will Offer Even More Space & Reliability
Skoda has confirmed a brand-new design for the 2024 Skoda Superb Hatchback. It will feature more space, better aerodynamics for efficiency and a new interior.
The fourth iteration of the Skoda Superb hatchback introduces a novel addition, incorporating mild-hybrid technology for the very first time. In the entry-level 1.5 TSI model boasting 150 hp, a four-cylinder petrol engine now enjoys the assistance of a 48-volt belt-driven starter-generator and a lithium-ion battery rated at 48 volts.
This setup facilitates the recovery of energy during braking, effectively storing it in the battery for later use. This recuperated energy can be harnessed to provide an electric power boost to the internal combustion engine or enable the vehicle to coast seamlessly with the engine completely disengaged.
Skoda offers two other engine options in the form of 2.0 TSI units, with power outputs of 204 hp and 265 hp. Likewise, the most potent diesel variant, a 2.0 TDI delivering 193 hp, as well as the top-tier petrol version, comes equipped with all-wheel drive as a standard feature.
The extensive engine lineup is completed by a 2.0 TDI generating 150 hp. A notable shift for Skoda is that all Superb engines now come paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission as standard, all while adhering to the stringent Euro 6d emissions standards.
In terms of space and aerodynamics, the new Skoda Superb hatchback outdoes its predecessor.
It has grown in length by 43 millimetres, reaching 4,912 millimetres, and gained twelve millimetres in height, standing at 1,481 millimetres. This translates to eleven additional millimetres of headroom for front occupants and six more for those in the rear. Luggage capacity has seen a commendable 20-litre increase, now measuring at 645 litres.
The vehicle's width, at 1,834 millimetres, and wheelbase, spanning 2,841 millimetres, have remained unchanged. Engineers have gone the extra mile to optimize air intakes and refine the occupant cell and exterior mirrors, resulting in a remarkable drag coefficient of only 0.24. Skoda's latest design language is evident in the Superb, showcasing the brand's characteristic sculptural lines.
The interior of the Superb has undergone a complete transformation, featuring a prominent central display that can stretch up to 13 inches diagonally. This is complemented by a groundbreaking addition, a head-up display, a first for Skoda's flagship ICE model.
Furthermore, the introduction of Skoda Smart Dials, consisting of three rotary pushbuttons located beneath the infotainment screen, each boasting a digital display with a 32-millimetre diameter, facilitates quick and convenient access to a multitude of vehicle functions.
The centre console has also been redesigned, offering a cleaner, more spacious appearance thanks to the relocation of the gear lever directly onto the steering column.
Traditional trim levels like Active, Ambition, and Style have been replaced by a fresh selection of choices: Essence and Selection, with additional options such as the Sportline and Laurin & Klement versions. Each of these variants boasts a unique interior design, blending modern concepts with a focus on eco-friendly materials.
