The third-generation Audi Q5 is now open for orders, starting at just under £50,000. Buyers can choose between petrol and diesel engines across three trim levels – Sport, S line, and Edition 1 – while the high-performance SQ5, powered by a V6, stands as a separate option.
The new Q5 is built on Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture and enters the market shortly after its main competitor, the BMW X3, which we recently tested. While the Audi is slightly more expensive in its entry-level form, the price gap widens as you explore higher trims. The SQ5 starts at £74,400, whereas a comparable BMW X3 M50 begins at £66,980.
At the base level, the Audi Q5 TFSI is equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine, producing 201bhp and 340Nm of torque. Priced from £49,950, it accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.2 seconds, and Audi claims a fuel efficiency of up to 40.9mpg, depending on configuration. All variants come with a seven-speed S tronic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive.
For an additional £1,650, you can opt for the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, which also features mild-hybrid technology, automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. It delivers the same 201bhp but offers more torque at 400Nm, with a 0-62mph time of 7.4 seconds. The most efficient diesel versions promise up to 47.9mpg.
The range-topping SQ5 is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine, producing 362bhp. Available exclusively in Edition 1 trim for now, it is priced from £74,400 and features a seven-speed automatic gearbox and Quattro all-wheel drive. This model achieves 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 155mph.
Audi emphasises that the new Q5 is "extensively equipped" in all trims. Even the base models include 19-inch alloy wheels, a powered tailgate, and full LED lighting at the front and rear. An optional over-the-air Matrix LED upgrade, seen previously on models like the e-tron GT, can be added for a fee.
Inside, the Sport trim offers heated leather seats, three-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and dual displays for the infotainment and instrument clusters. Safety features are comprehensive, with systems like camera-based traffic sign recognition, lane-departure warning, and a 360-degree parking camera as standard.
The S line trim, which starts from £52,550, adds £2,600 to the base price and includes 20-inch wheels, privacy glass, and signature S line styling, such as distinctive bumpers, grille, and trim. The interior also gets upgrades like a flat-bottomed steering wheel and S logos on the headrests.
Edition 1, starting from £56,750, offers additional black styling accents, including blacked-out Audi rings, roof rails, and exhaust tips, along with 21-inch wheels. Matrix LED lights come as standard, and the cabin features a blend of Dinamica microfibre and leather upholstery. The passenger side includes a 10.9-inch screen for streaming content during travel.
All versions can be enhanced with the optional Sound and Vision pack (£2,195), which adds a configurable head-up display and a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system.
Although branded as an 'Edition 1' model, the SQ5 includes its own unique touches such as 21-inch black wheels, adaptive air suspension, and a panoramic sunroof. Inside, it features perforated Nappa leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel, with the Bang & Olufsen system and head-up display included as standard.
The entire new Audi Q5 range is available to order now, with deliveries starting in April 2025 (next year). A plug-in hybrid version, the Q5 TFSIe, is expected to follow, along with a more streamlined Q5 Sportback.
