Audi's Stonking Q8 SUV Gets a Mid-Life Update for 2023
The Audi Q8 SUV is getting a mid-life update for 2023 which includes some exterior design changes and some updates to the interior and technology.
The 2023 Audi Q8 has received a refreshing update, focusing on its exterior aesthetics while keeping its lineup of V6 and V8 engines intact. Introduced in 2019 as Audi's sportier coupe-SUV, the Q8 competes directly with the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe, both of which have undergone recent facelifts.
The exterior enhancements are immediately noticeable, with a redesigned grille insert, revamped side air intakes, and updated standard LED headlights that sport a fresh lighting signature. Wheel size options range from 20 to 23 inches, and the rear lights have undergone subtle tweaks. To distinguish various Q8 trim levels, several trim elements, including the rear diffuser, underside guard, and door surrounds, now feature contrasting colours.
The performance-oriented Audi SQ8, with the range-topping RS Q8, set to be unveiled later, boasts a reshaped lip spoiler, a new underride guard, and a redesigned rear diffuser. The front grille adopts a new look, and honeycomb inserts adorn the front air intake.
To further differentiate itself from its competitors, the Q8 has received interior technological upgrades. Audi's MMI infotainment system now offers an expanded range of apps, including third-party providers like Spotify and Amazon Music.
The driver assistance systems, including lane change warning, crossroad assist, and traffic light information, have been given a more prominent position within the Audi 'virtual cockpit.' Standard features include a rearview camera, park assist, high beam assist, and keyless entry.
Unfortunately, the plug-in hybrid Q8 has been discontinued, reflecting Audi's recent decision. In the UK, the Q8 lineup comprises two diesel 3.0-litre V6 engines, a petrol 3.0-litre V6, and a petrol V8. All V6 engines come equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, permanent four-wheel drive, and a 48V mild-hybrid system with a belt-driven starter motor.
Starting the Q8 range is the 45 TDI, generating 228bhp and 500Nm of torque, resulting in a 7.1-second 0-62mph time and a top speed of 140mph. The 50 TDI diesel variant delivers 282bhp and 600Nm of torque, accelerating from 0-62mph in 6.1 seconds and achieving a top speed of 150mph.
Moving on to the 55 TFSI, it features a petrol V6 producing 335bhp and 500Nm of torque, enabling a 5.6-second 0-62mph time and a limited top speed of 155mph. The sporty SQ8 boasts a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine, producing 500bhp and 770Nm of torque, sprinting from 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds. The V8 model also incorporates cylinder deactivation, achieving a claimed fuel economy figure of 22.7mpg.
Pricing details for the updated 2023 Audi Q8 are yet to be disclosed, but it's anticipated that the new model will command a higher price point than its predecessor. Expect the entry-level version to start around £80,000, with the SQ8 likely exceeding £100,000.
