McLaren has fine-tuned its flagship comfort-focused model for 2024, renaming it from GT to GTS in the process, adding more power and comfort.

The GTS retains its distinctive two-seater, mid-engined design and continues to harness the V8 powertrain that defines it.

McLaren insists that this long-distance cruiser has undergone subtle enhancements, promising an improved experience for buyers. Orders are open now, with deliveries expected early in 2024.

Fundamental aspects of the GTS remain unchanged. It utilizes a central carbon-fibre tub-style chassis, supported by two aluminium subframes - one housing the front suspension, while the other accommodates the engine, transmission, and rear suspension.

The 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine has received tweaks, boosting its power output by an additional 15bhp to 626bhp, with peak torque rated at 630Nm.

This powerplant is coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, driving the rear wheels through McLaren’s innovative Brake Steer system, eliminating the necessity for a traditional limited-slip differential.

Standard features include a double wishbone suspension with McLaren’s Proactive Damper Control system, utilizing a mix of springs and adaptive dampers along with standard anti-roll bars.

However, it's noteworthy that this doesn’t include the fully active Proactive Chassis Control system found in the new 750S, which hydraulically cross-links the dampers and eliminates anti-roll bars.

While deviating from the conventional grand tourer blueprint, the GTS benefits from its ultra-lightweight construction, shedding 10kg from its predecessor and weighing in at 1,520kg.

Consequently, its performance has been enhanced, achieving 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds, 0-124mph in 8.9 seconds, and boasting a top speed of 203mph.

Standard carbon ceramic brakes feature 390mm front and 380mm rear discs, gripped by six and four-piston calipers, respectively.

Alterations to the exterior styling are subtle, encompassing minor adjustments to the front bumper, trim elements, and a new set of alloy wheels.

Inside, there are fresh colour and trim options, emphasizing a sleek interior complemented by high-quality materials. The optional electrochromic glass roof, allowing on-demand tinting, remains a feature.

Despite its mid-engined layout, the GTS offers a decent amount of luggage space, featuring front and rear boots as well as additional storage behind the seats, totalling 570 litres of cargo capacity.
