Dacia Records Significant Cars Sales Growth In 2022

Romanian car manufacturer Dacia is going from strength to strength with car sales, even during a post-Covid world and global supply chain shortages.

Dacia is proving they will weather the storm as they go from strength to strength even during trying times for the car industry. They recorded significant sales growth in 2022 despite issues with global chip supply shortages and the current war in Ukraine. 

Last year Dacia sold its eight millionth vehicle and had an increase of 55% in sales compared to 2021. This goes to show there is still a strong interest in smaller and cheaper vehicles, as opposed to the increase in more expensive German saloons from Audi, BMW or Mercedes-Benz.

Dacia sold a total of 573,800 cars in 2022, which was a 6.8% increase year on year. Of this figure was the Dacia Sandero, an affordable supermini that sold 229,500 units, while the versatile Dacia Duster SUV sold 197,100 units. 

The brand-new Dacia Jogger, an affordable MPV, managed to sell 56,800 units, which was a fairly strong number considering it was the first year in showrooms. Dacia introduced a hybrid Jogger model last year and they expect it to sell well in 2023. 

Dacia plans to bring a new small EV to the UK. Named the Dacia Spring, it's currently on sale in the EU and costs just €20,000, making it one of the cheapest EVs available currently. They also plan to bring out an 'Extreme' trim model that will feature design tweaks and extra performance.

With the previously mentioned increase in sales compared to 2021 by 55%, this helped Dacia to increase their market share in 2022 to 3.1%. This means Dacia is currently the 13th most popular automotive brand in the UK.

Dacia's marketing and head of sales, Xavier Martinet has said:

"Dacia's European sales volume and market share figures rose in 2022, confirming the relevance of our strategy based on redefining the essentials and tailoring our products to customer needs. In 2023, we are going to build on this momentum by extending our range of electrified vehicles, while staying true to Dacia's positioning of offering our customers simplicity and the best value for money"
