Ford Updates The Puma Crossover For 2024 Including The ST
Ford's popular SUV crossover Puma gets a small mid-life update to the exterior and interior. But the ST model loses the 1.5-litre engine as well as manual gearbox.
The Puma SUV crossover has been on the road long enough for Ford to decide it's time for a refresh, though calling it a "facelift" might not quite hit the mark.
The mid-life update involves relocating the Blue Oval badge from the bonnet to the grille, a trend we've seen with other Ford models. Additionally, the snazzy new LED front light clusters feature a fresh headlamp signature.
Beyond that, changes to the exterior are rather minimal.
However, Ford has made significant updates to the interior, which we'll delve into shortly, along with discussing what's no longer part of the lineup.
While the Puma ST is still available, it's now only offered in the 'Powershift' variant with its slightly less potent 1.0-litre engine and automatic gearbox.
Unfortunately, the beloved 1.5-litre manual version has been discontinued, with no plans for a return due to a "streamlining" of the range, likely influenced by emissions considerations.
Regarding the ST Powershift, it maintains its 168bhp output, resulting in a 0-62mph time of 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 130mph, consistent with its previous performance figures.
This compares to the now-defunct 1.5-litre version, which boasted 197bhp, a 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds, and a top speed of 136mph.
Inside the cabin, there's better news, with the old SYNC 3 eight-inch infotainment system being replaced by a 12-inch setup running SYNC 4 software and upgrading from 4G to 5G connectivity.
A new 12.8-inch digital instrument cluster has also been introduced, along with a plethora of additional driver assistance features such as enhanced adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and 'rear cross-traffic braking'.
If the ST isn't your cup of tea, there are three other options available, all powered by a 1.0-litre inline-three engine. There's a 123bhp variant available with a manual transmission, and another with the same power output but featuring a 'Powershift' automatic.
Lastly, there's a 153bhp model, again with the automatic transmission, which offers performance not far off from the ST, sprinting from 0-62mph in 8.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 124mph.
Another option set to join the lineup later this year is the all-electric Puma Gen-E.
Trim levels will include Titanium, ST-Line, and ST-Line X, with a choice of six colours available. Prices for the range will start from £25,790.
