Rumours are swirling that the next car in the I.D. range will be a refreshed all-electric Scirocco, and we may already know what it looks like.
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The announcement of an electric Scirocco would certainly be well-timed. The Volkswagen Scirocco hasn't been updated since 2014, and with refreshes for the Golf and Polo models fresh out the factory, it's only a matter of time that the popular Scirocco gets a new shape and a lick of paint. Now, rumours are spreading that an updated Scirocco may be revealed that brings it in line with the all-electric I.D. concepts - the VW ID, VW Buzz and VW Crozz.
An all-electric Scirocco wouldn't be such a bad idea, considering the sporting capabilities of electric vehicles. Some serious bhp figures come out of the latest electric vehicles, and the I.D. concepts are seriously lacking something with a bit of a kick! Could the nippy two-door become an electrified speed demon?[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="5107" img_size="full" css_animation="top-to-bottom"][vc_column_text]It's funny you should ask, because VW already thought about making a super-fast Golf GTE. When they released concept images of a Golf GTE Sport, we didn't think anything of it, and when the Golf range got a mid-cycle facelift, we dismissed it as a forgotten dream. Now, with this fresh information of a fast and furious electric Scirocco, we can look at the concepts with fresh eyes, and it really does have the same shape.
It wouldn't surprise us if someone over at VW saw the designs and thought that they would fit in with the I.D. line-up and decided to make it a reality. It's not unreasonable to think that a concept would appear at Frankfurt Motor Show in just a few weeks either. VW still have numerous I.D. models to announce until they begin development of them in the next few years. It's more than likely that we will get to see the debut of new I.D. models at every major motor show from now until 2020![/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image="5106" img_size="full" css_animation="top-to-bottom"][vc_column_text]Although the image above has exhaust pipes, we have to remember that this concept design was released before VW had officially unveiled their I.D. MEB platform to the world, and they probably didn't want to jump the gun by showing off an exhaust-less sport model.
Interestingly, if we did get an all-electric Scirocco, it would certainly improve the interior space in the car due to the lack of an engine, which would presumably bring with it a second storage space (a front-trunk or "frunk"), more leg room and better interior dimensions.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
We can't help but get excited about the idea of an electric Scirocco, but only if it has oodles of horses!
