The famous Volkswagen Golf celebrates 50 years of running with some enhanced hardware and software features.

Refreshed front and rear aesthetics and a novel lighting scheme characterise the updated appearance of the latest Golf and Golf Estate models.

The revamped front end prominently features the illuminated Volkswagen logo, a first-time inclusion for the Golf, and newly crafted LED headlights.

At the pinnacle, the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights now boast a high-performance main beam extending up to 500 metres. Both body variants showcase the redesigned IQ.LIGHT 3D LED tail light clusters.

Internally, a reimagined, user-friendly infotainment system takes centre stage, housing a standalone touchscreen with a diagonal span of up to 32.8 cm.

Noteworthy additions include ergonomically refined and illuminated touch sliders for temperature and volume control.

The multifunctional steering wheel has been upgraded, alongside the introduction of the new IDA voice assistant, allowing for natural language interaction to manage various functions like air conditioning, telephone, and navigation.

The IDA can also provide access to diverse online information, from weather forecasts to general knowledge queries.

Integrating the ChatGPT-based chatbot into the IDA voice assistant adds a new layer of artificial intelligence, demonstrated at CES in Las Vegas, enhancing in-car conversational experiences.

Streamlined parking manoeuvres are facilitated by advanced assist systems, notably the improved Park Assist Plus function.

This system, upon detecting a suitable parking space (parallel or bay), takes charge of steering, acceleration, and braking during the parking procedure, requiring only monitoring from the driver.

Park Assist Pro, a novel feature for the Golf, allows users to guide the vehicle in and out of parking spaces using their smartphone. For tight spaces, the vehicle can be remotely manoeuvred out of the parking spot.

The newly introduced Area View system employs four cameras to create a comprehensive 360-degree view, displayed on the infotainment touchscreen, aiding in recognising kerbs and parking space markings.

The latest Golf introduces a diversified powertrain range

The upgraded plug-in hybrid configurations promise enhanced power and an electric range of approximately 100 km, complemented by a DC quick-charging function.

The 48 V mild hybrid drives, renowned for efficiency, cater to individuals without a home charging wall box. Launching with a selection of mild hybrid (eTSI), plug-in hybrid (eHybrid and GTE), turbocharged petrol (TSI), and turbocharged diesel (TDI) variants, the Golf GTI stands out with increased power.

Additional Golf derivatives are slated for introduction throughout 2024 for the UK.
