MG's MG4 EV Wins the Car of the Year 2023 Award

The MG4 EV has been named UK Car of the Year 2023, with a panel of experts selecting the all-electric hatchback as the best new car on sale in the UK today.

The UKCOTY (UK Car Of The Year Awards) are yearly independent motoring awards sponsored by big automotive brand names such as HeyCar, Carwow and WhatCar. The UKCOTY offers impartial motoring advice and has media written by automotive media producers such as EVO Magazine, Pistonheads, Auto Express Fifth Gear and many more.

Each year the UKCOTY picks several vehicle categories and chooses the best cars for that year. Categories include the best city car, best SUV, best coupe and more. They also have a singular 'Car of the Year' award where they choose the car that offers the best value for money and drivability out of each category. 

This year the following cars won in each category

• Best City - Toyota Aygo X
• Best Family - MG Motor UK MG4
• Best Large Family - Dacia Jogger
• Best Crossover - Kia Niro
• Best Large Crossover - Range Rover
• Best Coupe - Toyota GR86
• Best Performance - Lotus Emira

Winner of the Car of the Year 2023 Award

This year a 27-strong panel of judges voted for the best car for 2023 out of the 7 category winners. Affordability, practicality and driving range pinpointed as key attributes in their choice of winner. 

The MG Motor UK MG4 EV ended up taking home the Car of the Year 2023 Award thanks to its practicality, range, driving dynamics and affordability. It's basically one of the most affordable EVs on the road and offers a huge amount of spec for the cost.

John Challen, director of the UK Car of the Year Awards says:

"The MG4 proves that electric cars can be affordable, practical and appeal to all areas of the automotive market. Fully charged, it offers more than enough miles for most journeys, while the design and driving dynamics tick two other important boxes for consumers. A deserved winner for the electric future."

Carwow’s Paul Barker described the MG4 as:

"The car several other manufacturers will wish they had built. Proof that electric cars can be strikingly good looking while also relatively affordable, practical and usable."

Tom Ford, from Top Gear says:

"In a world where practical electric cars are all SUVs and priced to the sky, the MG4 offers genuine value-for-money. It brings EV ownership closer to reality for more people."

And finally, Chris Evans, head of sales at heycar UK (sponsor of the UK Car of the Year Awards) said:
