New 2020 Audi S3 Saloon and Sportback spied on

Taking the updated design of the recently unveiled 2020 A3, the S3 Saloon and Sportback are set to be released later in 2020

The new 2020 Audi S3 Saloon and Sportback have been spied on in Germany. Due to be released later this year, the fourth-generation S3 models are competing with the now legendary Volkswagen Golf R, the Mercedes-Benz A35 4Matic and the BMW M135i. The S3 range has always been aimed at consumers that were after a powerful car with premium overtones, but not at the pricepoint of the expensive RS3 range. The 2020 S3 aims to continue that template as it has proven to be an incredibly popular car for Audi.

What we know about the 2020 S3 so far

The most obvious is the design update to the exterior. The 2020 Audi A3 range was shown earlier this year with updated models. The S3 was always going to take that design and give it the S3 treatment. Like the previous S3 models, the 2020 S3 will share its design (exterior and interior) with the S Line models of the A3. That means they get the standard premium interior the S Line brings with it. To differentiate it from the A3 S Line it gets the S3 'badge of honour' sitting on the front grille and rear end, as well as the trademark quad exhausts which their distinctive throaty growl. The 2020 S3 will host a select amount of alloy options which the upgraded brake package to stop the powerful beast in its tracks quickly when needed. 

We don't know much about the interior styling yet, but we can take a guess and say the 2020 S3 will take the high-quality design of the 2020 A3 S Line and update it for the S3. Expect the usual package of premium stitching, sports seats, high-tech features and tuned suspension. 

The final spec for the engine is yet to be confirmed, however, judging from the previous S3 the most likely package is expected to be a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with around 300 to 330bhp. This will be accompanied by a dual-clutch transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Bear in mind the 2017 Audi S3 Saloon was already pushing 306bhp from the 2.0-litre turbo, but with emissions laws tightening, will Audi be able to keep this horsepower figure going? 

When will the new 2020 Audi S3 range be released?

Given the 2020 A3 range is meant to be released July to August, traditionally the S3 comes not long after. Our guess is that the 2020 S3 will be coming to the UK around September time.

How much will the new 2020 Audi S3 range cost?

Looking at previous S3 prices, we can take a guess and say the 2020 S3 will probably cost around £40,000 - £45,000. However, this is obviously just our estimate and real prices are yet to be confirmed.
