The new 2024 Skoda Superb is now on its fourth generation and Skoda promises the latest iteration to focus on efficiency, sustainability and style.

While the design maintains the Skoda's signature Modern Solid design language, it presents an evolution from its predecessors.

The elongated bonnet seamlessly merges into an octagonal grille that gracefully dips at the centre, accommodating a larger Skoda emblem. This grille is complemented by slimmer headlights, incorporating the latest Matrix LED technology, delivering an impressive 40% increase in brightness.

The windscreen now boasts a shallower angle, and the roofline has been refined, while rain deflectors are integrated into the A-pillars, collectively enhancing the Superb's aerodynamic profile and overall efficiency.

The dark chrome accents encircling the grille are also mirrored on the lower section of the bumper, where air curtains have been integrated. They continue around the window line, emphasizing the car's aesthetic appeal. The bonnet and side panels feature more pronounced creases, adding a sense of sharpness to the design.

Moving to the rear, the taillights have been slimmed down, featuring a distinctive C-shaped graphic that seamlessly flows into the tailgate. Premium models offer Audi-style scrolling indicators, and alloy wheels come as standard on all models, ranging in size from 17 to 19 inches.

Both the hatch and Estate versions have been subtly elongated and heightened, resulting in improved interior space. The boot capacity has also seen an increase, growing by 20 litres for the hatch (now at 645 litres) and 30 litres for the Estate (reaching 690 litres), expandable to an impressive 1,920 litres with the rear seats folded down.

The cabin design marks a significant departure, with the touchscreen growing to an impressive 13 inches on the top-tier models (10 inches on lower trims) and positioned prominently on the dashboard. Skoda has wisely added a handrest just below the touchscreen. In front of the driver, the 10-inch Virtual Cockpit is slightly elevated, retaining a sleek cowl.

The Superb's reliance on the touchscreen for all functions is not absolute, thankfully for those who hate faffing around with them (looking at you Volkswagen).

It incorporates three elegant Smart Dials, akin to those in the latest Kodiaq SUV. These dials control heating, and ventilation, and can be customized to manage various functions, from audio volume to selecting different driving modes.

Connectivity is offered to both Apple and Android users with CarPlay and Android Auto. A notable addition is the Phone Box with a cooling feature, part of Skoda's Simply Clever solutions, which now includes 28 new features in the latest Superb.

The new Superb features an array of advanced driver assistance systems, totalling nine, including Crew Protect Assist, Travel Assist, and Intelligent Park Assist, aimed at ensuring safety on the road.

Breaking from the current trend, Skoda is introducing two diesel versions of the Superb, opting not to release a fully electric variant yet. The range commences with a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 148bhp, followed by two 2.0-litre petrol options with power outputs of 201bhp and 262bhp, the latter featuring four-wheel drive.

The two 2.0-litre diesel engines deliver either 148bhp or 190bhp, with the more powerful version incorporating all-wheel drive. Every Superb model now comes equipped with a DSG automatic gearbox, operated via a column-mounted shifter to maximize centre console space.

At the top of the range, a novel plug-in hybrid model, the Superb iV, combines the 1.5 petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 201bhp. Notably, the iV boasts a substantial 25.7kWh battery, enabling over 60 miles of electric-only driving.

A 10-80% charge on a 50kW charger takes just 25 minutes. While specific CO2 figures are yet to be released, the Superb iV promises significant BiK tax benefits.

Detailed pricing information is expected to be unveiled before the year's end, with the range anticipated to start from approximately £35,000, a slight increase from the current starting price of £32,605. Orders for the estate version open in January, followed by the estate iV and hatch in April, with initial deliveries scheduled to commence mid-year.
