Renault is set to unveil its Twingo E-Tech electric prototype at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, running from 14 to 20 October. The car was initially revealed in November 2023, and the event will mark its first public appearance.
When Renault launched the original Twingo in 1992, it transformed the automotive world. Its vibrant design and ability to enhance everyday life embodied Renault’s vision of "les voitures à vivre" - cars built for living.
The Twingo E-Tech electric prototype aims to revive this spirit with an all-electric vehicle that is purpose-built for urban driving without compromise.
True to its roots, the Twingo E-Tech electric prototype is clever, original, and perfectly suited for modern life. Much like its 1992 predecessor, which featured a playful, minimalist design, agile handling, and cheerful personality, this prototype retains a sense of fun and practicality.
Compact enough to navigate busy city streets, the Twingo E-Tech prototype boasts five doors for added convenience. Its monovolume design, complete with a fixed glass roof that brightens the spacious interior, perfectly encapsulates Renault’s "voitures à vivre" ethos.
A number of design elements from the original Twingo are integrated into this modern prototype, enhancing its character with fresh, fluid lines.
Cutting-edge updates across the vehicle, such as the distinctive headlamps now housed within floating LED rings, create a blend of technological sophistication and visual appeal.
The rear design of the Twingo E-Tech electric prototype pays homage to the original Twingo’s iconic tail, with a modern twist provided by the black trim around the rear window. The taillights, which echo the shape of the headlamps, protrude slightly, giving the car a futuristic, high-tech appearance. The cheerful 'Twingo' lettering centred on the tailgate adds a playful touch.
More than just a car, the Twingo E-Tech electric prototype has a distinctive personality. Its face, characterised by expressive headlamps and sleek front-end lines, topped off with the Renault logo, conveys a sense of familiarity and charm, almost as though it shares a secret with those who behold it.
Inspired by the original model, the headlamps protrude from the body, further enhancing the Twingo E-Tech’s modern, high-tech feel and unique character.
One of the standout features is the expansive glass roof, which bathes the interior in natural light, creating an airy, open feel for passengers. Another nostalgic nod to the 1992 model is the door handles, which now feature illuminated circular rims, enhancing their practicality with a touch of flair.
The three small vents on the bonnet, though unnecessary for cooling this fully electric city car, are a tribute to the original Twingo’s design heritage.
As a show car, the Twingo E-Tech electric prototype represents the next step in a journey that began over 30 years ago and previews the upcoming fourth-generation Twingo, set for release in 2026.
Developed by Ampere, it aims to offer an affordable entry price of under 20,000 Euros (£16,800), reflecting Renault's commitment to making electric mobility accessible to a wider audience.
This effort is in line with Renault's broader electric range, which includes models such as the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, Renault 4 E-Tech electric, Megane E-Tech electric, and Scenic E-Tech electric.
