Spotted: The Upcoming Volkswagen ID.7 Electric Estate
Volkswagen has been keen to continue pushing production of the electric ID series. The ID.7 Estate is next on their list and has been spotted during testing.
Volkswagen's ID series of electric vehicles has been a huge success. With the ID.3 hatchback being one of the most popular EVs (electric vehicles) out there and built on a platform that has paved the way for the likes of the CUPRA Born, the Q4 e-tron SUV and the Skoda Enyaq iV.
So it's no surprise Volkswagen is pushing for a new niche in the EV market, the electric estate. There are already a few EV estates available on the market with the likes of the MG5 and the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. But they are few and far between. There are plenty in the works scheduled to be released soon such as the Peugeot e-308 SW, Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer, BMW i5 Touring and the Audi A6 Avant e-tron.
The Upcoming Volkswagen ID.7 Electric Estate
The following images were taken during a practical test session of the ID.7 estate taken on public roads. The VW ID.7 is borrowing their design cues from the ID.7 saloon. The ID.7 estate will be a road-worthy production version of the ID.Space Vizzion concept, which was announced to the public back in 2019.
Bear in mind these images are just testing prototypes and the final production vehicle may look very different.
The ID.7 estate should also be borrowing the same internals from the ID.7 saloon. So it should feature 77kWh and 82kWh batteries respectively. We expect the 77kWh version to have around 380 miles of range on a full charge and the 82kWh to have around 435 miles.
Expect power for the 77kWh battery to be around 282bhp with a rear electric motor, as is common for EVs these days. We haven't heard much about the power of the 82kWh but you can expect it to have a dual motor setup and a fair increase of power more than likely.
VW has been keen to push out the GTX models recently as well, with both the ID.4 and ID.5 having a GTX version. So expect the ID.7 estate and saloon to have powerful all-wheel-drive GTX models which feature high bhp motors. Perfect for those who love their performance EVs.
The Volkswagen ID.7 estate is expected to go into production sometime during 2024. By then the aforementioned estate EVs like the Audi A6 e-tron or BMW i5 Touring will be around to give the ID.7 some exciting competition.
