The 2022 Ford Focus ST Gets A Mid-Life Update
The Ford Focus range, including the powerful ST model, gets a mid-life update for 2022. Including exterior and interior tweaks and a new infotainment system.
Refreshed for 2022, the successful Ford Focus range has had a mid-life update which includes some design changes on the outside and some tweaks to the interior. This is keeping things fresh against the stiff modern competition and allowing drivers to move to the new SYNC 4 infotainment system.
Included in the update is the popular Ford Focus ST. It's been a staple for a long time for any budding performance enthusiast that wants more family/luggage room inside. The Fiesta ST was the popular option for those who didn't need the extra space.
2022 Ford Focus ST Exterior
The first thing you noticed about the 2022 Ford Focus ST is the changes to the exterior design, the front in particular. It's got new LED headlights with a slimmer profile, as well as an updated front bumper grille shape. Interestingly enough, only the headlights and front bumper have seen any changes, with the rest of the front section integrated into the new features.
Moving to the back of the car, the rear lamps have had their outer lighting inside the bulb compartment changed. This offers a new shape of lighting when it's dark. But the rest of the back remains the same as the previous model.
A couple of features are returning for the 2022 ST. Features such as the small rear spoiler, bulging side skirts and the 19-inch 10-spoke alloy design. A new and welcome addition for the 2022 Focus ST is the Mean Green paint scheme that has been recently shown on the Puma and Fiesta ST.
2022 Ford Focus ST Interior
On the interior is where a few more dramatic changes can be seen. An all-new central touchscreen has been added that features the latest Ford SYNC 4 software. A couple more buttons have been integrated into the software (such as the air conditioning), which means the lower dash area is a bit less cluttered with buttons and knobs.
Gone are the Recaro sports seats of the previous model. Ford now includes their own 'Performance' bucket seats which feature a fair amount of red stitching. This stitching also adorns a good portion of the cabin, which does raise the feel of quality materials within the interior.
2022 Ford Focus ST Engine
The turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder 276bhp petrol powerplant makes a return unchanged. This engine has proven to be reliable and fun, so we're not the least bit worried about it. You have a choice between a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic that features a torque converter as well as paddle shifters behind the flat bottomed steering wheel.
The estate model will be making a return and Ford says there will be diesel variants as well, but UK specifications have yet to be confirmed.
2022 Ford Focus ST Price & Release Date
The standard Ford Focus models will start at £22,465, whereas the performance ST version will start at £33,885. Additional spec and optional packs such as the X Pack for the ST will of course increase the cost.
Ford has said the new Focus models, including the Focus ST will hit the UK roads in early 2022.
