The Final Bell Tolls For The Audi TT As Production Nears End
The Audi TT sports car celebrates 25 years of production with the 25th-anniversary special edition model. This will be the final version of the current Audi TT.
Back in 1998, the Audi TT was lauded for its fashionable new design and extensive features list. It was something different from Audi and it sold well in the sports car segment. As it stands, the TT still does well for Audi and still takes up a large portion of the sports car market.
Unfortunately, Audi has decided to kill off the TT sports car and replace it with something else. Something electric. But not before they do that, the Audi TT gets a final production run of the 'Final Edition' model. This marks the 25th anniversary of the Audi TT sports car.
How does the Final Edition stand out from standard TT models? Well, you get a black styling pack included which blacks out the TT badges, door mirrors, spoiler and exhaust tips to give it that sporty look. The soft top gets black rollover hoops and a black wind diffuser as well.
It comes with 20-inch 5-spoke Y-style matt grey diamond cut alloys, with red brake calipers housed inside. If you opt for the TTS you instead get 20-inch Audi Sport 7-spoke anthracite black alloys with gloss turned finish.
Paint-wise, buyers have the choice between Tango Red, Glacier White and Chronos Grey metallic paint as standard. The coupe version comes with privacy glass on the rear windows too.
Interior-wise, you get an extended leather pack which means the inside is draped in leather in every spot possible. The sports seats and flat-bottomed steering wheel have sections of red and grey plush Alcantara, as well as red stitching to complement them. The floor mats also come with red piping around the edges.
When it comes to equipment, Audi has thrown everything including the kitchen sink to ensure the Final Edition actually means something. You get the Audi Technology Pack as standard which includes a built-in sat nav to your digital cockpit, as well as Audi Audi Connect Infotainment Services. This particular service allows you to check local live fuel prices and weather forecasts. Neat.
If you choose the TTS 'Final Edition' you get the Comfort and Sound pack as standard, which adds in a reversing camera, an upgraded Bang & Olufsen sound system and a full suite of parking sensors around the car.
Audi recently unveiled the TT RS Iconic Edition, which was to the be final TT RS model before the end of production. These were limited to 100 units in Europe with just 11 examples bound for the UK. All 11 of them sold within weeks of going on sale. This just proves how popular the TT model is with UK audiences.
What's happening with the TT and why are they ending production?
The Audi TT has lived a long life and has been in production for 25 years. Audi has been wanting to transform the TT model into something new for a while now. Similar to how Ford turned the Puma from a sports car to an SUV-styled one.
Currently, the plans are to transform the Audi TT into an all-electric SUV. Whatever the plans are, this will be the last year for the ICE (internal combustion engine) Audi TT for good.
