Several months after introducing the new three-door model, the five-door Cooper joins the refreshed MINI lineup. With its enhanced space and cutting-edge in-car technology, the new MINI Cooper 5 Door comes equipped with two efficient petrol engines that deliver the signature MINI go-kart driving experience.
Measuring 4,036mm in length, 1,744mm in width, and 1,464mm in height, the MINI Cooper 5 Door closely resembles its hatchback predecessor in size. The wheelbase, however, is extended by 72mm and is 172mm longer than the three-door version, providing increased passenger comfort and room.
Available with two petrol engines, labelled C and S, and three distinct trims - Classic, Exclusive, and Sport - the new MINI Cooper 5 Door starts at £24,050 OTR. Customer deliveries are set to begin in August 2024.
The MINI Cooper 5 Door offers a choice between two petrol engines. The MINI Cooper C is powered by a 115 kW/154 hp three-cylinder engine with 230 Nm (170 lb/ft) of torque, achieving a top speed of 140mph and accelerating from 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds.
The MINI Cooper S features a 150 kW/201 hp four-cylinder engine, offering a maximum torque of 300 Nm (221 lb/ft), a 0-62mph acceleration time of 6.8 seconds, and a top speed of 150 mph.
Equipped with a sophisticated suspension and damping system, the MINI Cooper 5 Door ensures dynamic performance, precise steering, and powerful braking. The highly preloaded anti-roll bar mounts on the axles contribute to balanced handling, while the selectively tuned steering and stability control systems enhance the driving experience. The larger 625mm tyre diameter improves ride comfort and driving dynamics.
Distinctive features such as short overhangs, a compact bonnet, an extended wheelbase, and large wheels make the MINI Cooper 5 Door instantly recognisable. The iconic design is further highlighted by a three-part visual division comprising a sleek body, a wraparound window area, and a steep roof.
The minimalist front design features round headlights, an octagonal front grille, and LED headlights that can be adjusted into three different light signatures. The rear design is characterised by clean surfaces, flush-fitting taillights, and a black handle strip with unique model lettering.
The new MINI Cooper 5 Door is available in three trims: Classic, Exclusive, and Sport, each offering a range of exterior and interior customisation options. The Classic trim emphasises a streamlined appearance, featuring the MINI wings logo finished in Vibrant Silver. Customers can choose from five exterior paint finishes, two contrasting roof colours, and two-wheel options for maximum flexibility.
The Exclusive trim offers further customisation, including British Racing Green and the new Icy Sunshine Blue exterior paint, a Vescin Nightshade Blue interior, a dark headliner, and a front grille in Vibrant Silver. Standard 17" U Spoke Silver wheels are included, with optional 18" wheel designs available.
Sport trim includes Sports Transmission with steering wheel shift paddles, a distinctive front and rear design with a high-gloss black hexagonal patterned grill surround and logo, and a rear spoiler with airblades. Standard 18" JCW Lap Spoke 2-Tone Alloy wheels and black brake calipers with JCW badging are offered. Optional features include a contrasting Chili Red roof and red/black bonnet stripes. The interior of the Sport trim features a JCW black/red dashboard knit, a partially perforated Vescin steering wheel with red accents, and a red/black knit lidded storage box.
Inside, the MINI Cooper 5 Door focuses on the circular infotainment screen, signature toggle switch, and steering wheel. A slim head-up display behind the steering wheel ensures essential information is within the driver's line of sight.
Innovative materials, including a specially developed knitting process using recycled polyester, create a versatile and easy-care cabin. This two-color design extends across the curved dashboard and door panels.
The spacious front seats and clean lines give the cockpit a contemporary feel, while the panoramic glass roof provides a bright and open cabin, accommodating three passengers in the rear.
The Classic Trim features a three-spoke steering wheel accented with a textile band at the six o'clock position. Standard upholstery includes black/blue Vescin/cloth across the seats, dashboard, and door contrasts, with an optional grey/blue Vescin/cloth combination available.
For the Exclusive trim, sports seats in Vescin Nightshade Blue are standard, with an optional Beige version. The Sport Trim offers a performance-oriented material concept, combining Vescin and Cord in a dark night colour scheme with red accents on the dashboard and door trims.
At the heart of the MINI Cooper’s interior is a 24cm circular OLED display, where all vehicle functions can be controlled via touch or voice, thanks to the MINI Operating System 9.
The upper portion of the screen displays essential vehicle information such as speed and status alerts, while the lower section provides access to Navigation, Media, Phone, and Climate controls. Additional functions are accessible through the menu, and the display can return to its default setting via the home button. The optional head-up display ensures the most critical information remains in the driver's line of sight.
With the MINI Connected Package, the full MINI Navigation Package aids drivers with realistic 3D visualisations of turns, current traffic conditions even when route guidance is not active, and details about parking facilities.
The new MINI Cooper offers seven MINI Experience Modes: Core, Green, Go-Kart, Personal, Vivid, Timeless, and Balance. Each mode comes with specially designed backgrounds, and selecting one of these modes brings up a relevant "Mode App" on the display. This feature allows drivers to personalise the interior, as the MINI projector behind the OLED display casts matching colour schemes and patterns onto the dashboard, complemented by ambient lighting for a unique cabin atmosphere.
Activate the MINI Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) by saying "Hey MINI." A 3D visual representation, either a car avatar or MINI’s digital companion Spike, then appears on the OLED display. Using voice commands, drivers can control navigation, phone, entertainment, and other vehicle functions via the MINI IPA.
The new MINI Cooper 5 Door, produced at MINI Plant Oxford, is priced starting at £24,050 OTR, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for August 2024.
