We're at The CV Show in Birmingham looking at the Volkswagen Commercial Range up close and taking a look in, and around, the VW Caddy Black Edition.

Ignoring the Caddy Black Edition for just one moment, the standard Volkswagen Caddy is seriously spacious and economical, but if you’re looking for something stylish and special with extra equipment above and beyond the norm, then the Black Edition will catch your eye. It has a sportier design, with exterior highlights including the 17” Canyon two-tone alloy wheels, lowered suspension, black roof rails, body-coloured bumpers, door mirrors and handles. All with the same exceptional comfort, safety features and the powerful entertainment system with DAB, Bluetooth and touchscreen display all at your fingertips. The team over at Volkswagen took everything that's good about the Caddy and gave it lashings of excitement and personality, so - practicality included - this model will stand out from the crowd.

The fully carpeted cab gives your mobile workspace a comfort upgrade and the leather multi-function steering wheel brings with it an excellent feel while driving as well as providing you with access to all the important controls while you're on the move. Climatic air conditioning will keep you cool as you travel between locations, and the heated windscreen will make sure that you don't waste time on the driveway trying to defrost on a cold day when you could be on your way to the first job of the morning. Cruise control removes the stress and fatigue of long journeys, keeping you relaxed for when you're working. On top of all these comfort improvements, the Caddy Black Edition also has numerous safety features including front fog lamps, brake assist, cornering lights and automatic post-collision braking as standard.

The Caddy Black Edition is also economical, using the latest generation of Euro 6 engines to make sure you're not spending all your earnings on fuel. BlueMotion Technology is also standard on the 102PS 2.0 TDI engine. The BlueMotion Technology brings with it Hill Hold Assist, Regenerative braking, Start/Stop functionality and Low rolling resistance tyres. This should give you the reassurance that VW have thought of everything to make this model extremely suitable for the busy professional.

There are plenty of other features that make the Caddy great including rear parking sensors, electrically heated door mirrors, electric front windows, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rain sensors with automatic wipers, a USB port and more. The cargo area is accessed through the split rear doors and a single near-side sliding door. This gives you all the access you need for whatever you're carrying in the - (maximum) 628kg - space.

If you missed it, we were at the Birmingham NEC for the UK debut of the new Crafter, and it really does make an impactful change over the previous generation. That being said, all of the models on display in the NEC were huge crowd pleasers - including the Caddy Black Edition - and the models here were definitely the star of the show along with the other models on display on the Volkswagen stand such as the VW Amarok V6, Transporter Sportline, and the small, but practical, e-Load Up! based on the VW Up model.
