Volkswagen Reveals The All-New 2024 Passat Estate
The new 2024 Volkswagen Passat Estate features an updated design with a focus on aerodynamics and efficiency and will come with a host of modern technology.
Completely redesigned, yet classic Passat essence, the design exudes the unmistakable Passat identity, a true embodiment of Volkswagen's DNA, yet freshly reimagined from every angle.
The UK variant of the new model offers diverse driving options, including the introduction of the innovative mild hybrid eTSI petrol engine, an exclusive addition to the Passat lineup. In addition, two cutting-edge plug-in eHybrids and a TSI turbo petrol variant have been incorporated.
The power spectrum spans from 150 to 272 PS, all seamlessly integrated with a standard direct shift gearbox (DSG) transmission. The serene and spacious Passat Estate delivers an elevated travel experience and introduces new enhancements like the optional adaptive chassis control (DCC Pro) available for Life and Elegance trims and standard for R-Line, along with the innovative ergoActive seats furnished with pneumatic pressure point massages.
A novel digitalized cockpit landscape introduces an intuitive dimension, while the new Passat even boasts the capacity for autonomous parking and extended assisted driving capabilities over long distances.
The new 2024 VW Passat offers dual innovations in plug-in hybrids. Kai Grunitz, a key figure in the Brand Board of Management overseeing Technical Development, emphasizes,
"The ninth-generation Passat is underpinned by the advanced modular transverse matrix (MQB evo), marking a new era of innovation."
Leveraging the substantial benefits of MQB evo's economies of scale, Volkswagen has democratized cutting-edge technologies, granting access to countless drivers. This inclusivity is evident in the two groundbreaking plug-in hybrid systems (eHybrid) with power outputs of 150 kW (204 PS) and 200 kW (272 PS).
These new systems, coupled with a state-of-the-art 19.7 kWh battery, empower approximately 100 km of all-electric range.
This substantial distance transforms the Passat Estate into an everyday electric vehicle, facilitated by faster charging capabilities at AC charge points, providing 11 kW instead of the previous 3.6 kW.
Impressively, the Passat Estate eHybrid can even embrace up to 50 kW at DC fast charging stations. The combination of electric drive and an efficient new turbocharged petrol engine (1.5 TSI evo) offers an impressive total range of around 1,000 km.
The 2024 VW Passat Estate offers a greener drive thanks to a 48 V mild hybrid system. Joining the lineup is the 48 V mild hybrid drive (eTSI with 110 kW / 150 PS), ingeniously converting kinetic energy into electric power and enabling "coasting" without combustion engine intervention.
For the R-Line, a dynamic 2.0 TSI 150 kW (204 PS) turbo petrol engine completes the powertrain choices in the UK. Ensuring seamless transitions is an automatic direct shift gearbox (DSG), consistently included as standard.
It also has a revamped interior experience. Volkswagen has undertaken a complete overhaul of the premium interior. The standout feature is the expansive landscape display, a blend of elegance and functionality in a forward-looking design. Powering this experience is the MIB4 platform, enabling an intuitive interface meticulously tailored to Volkswagen drivers' preferences.
The new Passat Estate debuts with a refined suite of cutting-edge assistance systems. Notably, the park assist systems have been entirely reimagined, now including options like the optional Park Assist Plus, Park Assist Pro, and the memory function for Park Assist Pro.
With Park Assist Pro, the Passat Variant introduces the ability to remotely navigate into and out of parking spaces using a smartphone. When equipped with the memory function for Park Assist Pro, the system can even store the final 50 meters of a journey and replicate it upon returning to that spot, offering to take over the parking task. The system also enables independent exit from parking spaces.
The revolutionary adaptive chassis control DCC Pro redefines suspension technology standards, perfectly balancing maximum dynamics with ultimate comfort, setting a benchmark in the mid-sized class.
The innovative two-valve technology, a first for Volkswagen, enables this unparalleled experience. Complementing this is the ergoActive Plus seats with a pneumatic 10-chamber pressure point massage function, providing elevated travel comfort.
With an elongated wheelbase of 50 mm and an additional 50 mm of rear legroom, paired with a cavernous luggage capacity of up to 1,920 litres, the Passat Estate emerges as the ultimate versatile companion for both work and leisure pursuits.
With more than 34 million VW Passats sold worldwide, the Passat is one of Volkswagen's top-selling cars of all time. The 2024 Passat Estate is due to be launched in the first quarter of 2024.
