Volkswagens Popular T-Roc SUV Will Be The Last ICE VW In Europe
Volkswagen's next-gen T-Roc to be the final internal-combustion engined car produced before the leap into only producing electric vehicles
Well...if this isn't a big announcement then I don't know what is.
Volkswagen has announced its strategy for full electrification by stating that it will only be offering electric models in Europe from 2033. They have confirmed that the next generation of the T-Roc will be the last ever new car introduced in Europe with a petrol or diesel engine.
By extension and surmising, this will mean that the next Golf, or potentially named 'ID.Golf', will be all-electric only. As well as that, the new Touareg, Tiguan, and Passat will be among the last Internal Combustion Engine launches the brand will release in Europe.
With this being said, however, Volkswagen can still produce new ICE cars until the early 2030s. But this has to be compliant with the new legislation being enforced from 2025 regarding Euro 7 emission standards and it's believed that this could be too costly.
It's not expected that there will be a reveal for the second generation T-Roc anytime soon as the new facelift for the first generation has only just been released. however, it is expected that we will see the new model sit on a more modern and updated version of VW's MQB platform, this meaning that it wouldn't allow for a fully electric T-Roc but could see a release of a hybrid or plug-in hybrid model the join the range.
But what about SEAT? They have recently announced that it has no plans for electrification. The Ateca sits on the same platform as the T-Roc and there is no replacement that is being tested as of yet.
