The new Golf GTI Clubsport made its debut on the Ring Boulevard at the iconic Eifel region race track, thrilling a crowd of motorsport enthusiasts. They were the first to glimpse the enhanced model, updated for the Golf's 50th anniversary, now boasting a completely redesigned front end that exudes more power and distinctiveness. The standard LED Plus headlights have been updated, and for the first time, the front features an illuminated VW logo. A large rear roof spoiler provides maximum downforce, while the LED tail light clusters have also been refreshed.
The introduction of the new 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels, with their striking five-oval semi-circle design, evokes the classic Detroit wheel from the fifth-generation Golf GTI. As an additional option, the Golf GTI Clubsport can now be equipped with the new 19-inch Warmenau forged wheels. Weighing only eight kilograms each, these forged wheels reduce unsprung masses, enhancing performance. The car’s functions and systems are now managed via a newly developed multifunction leather sports steering wheel and a new infotainment system, which is intuitive and allows the driver to focus better on the road. The top-of-the-range GTI model also includes the new IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration.
Inside, the updated Golf GTI Clubsport impresses just as much as the exterior changes; the GTI turbocharged engine (EA888 LK3 evo4) produces 400 Nm of torque and 221 kW (300 PS), transmitted to the road through an electronically controlled front differential lock. The DCC adaptive chassis control is an optional feature, as has always been the case with both the Golf GTI and Golf R.
A standout feature of the Golf GTI Clubsport is the exclusive Special driving profile. This mode adjusts systems critical for driving dynamics to suit the unique characteristics of the Nurburgring track. To handle the Nordschleife's undulations, maximum performance is achieved with a specific vertical setup of the DCC adaptive chassis control and a modified lateral dynamics setup of the standard Vehicle Dynamics Manager. The Golf GTI Clubsport accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph. However, with the Race package, this limit can be raised to 165 mph.
