VW To Roll Out New '3.0' Software For ID Models From April 2022
Volkswagen is ready to roll out a major software update for the ID models. The 3.0 update is free and is available via an over-the-air update from April 2022.
From April 2022, Volkswagen are rolling out free over-the-air updates for the electric ID models. Any ID model delivered to you after April 2022 will come installed with the new 3.0 update from the factory. Whilst any car that is still on the previous version will receive a notification in their cars to tell them update 3.0 is available.
What changes does update 3.0 bring for the ID models?
Update 3.0 brings new driver assistance systems, improved charging times and enhanced voice control.
Parking assistance systems have been upgraded with a new memory system. This allows you to teach the car a specific parking manoeuvre, which is repeated daily, such as parking in your drive at home. It can then park into it for you with the touch of a button.
Travel assist now uses a Swarm Data system. This is a system that takes information from other VW vehicles in order to improve lane centring on roads that do not have markings. The system can adapt to the driver's own driving style and provides lane assist to keep your car orientated correctly.
3.0 also brings updates to the infotainment system and augmented reality head-up display. It now features new symbols such as roundabouts and information on the distance to the destination. The turn right or left arrows now appear more integrated into the surroundings so make them more obvious.
The sat nav now locates the vehicle precisely in the lane within the system limits, which enables it to recommend changing lanes in good time at motorway junctions and exits. The corresponding indication for the lane change recommendation also appears in the ID. Light, the strip light under the windscreen.
The 3.0 update has also been enhanced to provide routes when using sat nav that provides more charging stations, should the mileage be over a certain amount. VW have updated the voice control system to provide voice recognition accuracy of up to 95%.
The driver display also now shows the battery state of charge as a percentage, following customer feedback. Customers who want to conserve their battery better can activate the new Battery Care Mode, which limits the SOC charge level to 80%.
ID models using the latest 3.0 software and having a 77kWh battery will now be able to charge up to a maximum of 135kW instead of 125kW. VW says improvements to the thermal management of the battery can also increase the car’s range, especially in cold weather.
